Can different seats lean much further back?
Hi all. I've been driving my 87 chevy truck around again. Single cab. Maybe I'm just getting spoiled to the luxuries of these newer vehicles, but it doesn't seem like the seating is done very well in these old trucks. Mainly, you can't lean back enough. Or... at all. You're always stuck in this odd, almost pushed forward position. When it comes to your back.
I'm considering putting in some kind of newer bucket seats this summer. But I'm wondering if you actually gain any room to lean back. Does anyone know if you get to make use of those few extra inches to lean back, once you get rid of the bench seat? Or does it not really help much? I'm looking to update as well, maybe I just got older and fatter since my last square but it does feel like you're constantly leaning forward in these. I don't remember my last one being this bad but it's also been 9 years.

Some bench seats have a bolt you can tighten up to allow more lean back.
Personally I love the suspension bench seats as they have the support I like, and lean back that is more comfy. Plus you can order them in custom width to match your trucks real interior width better. They are only slightly more expensive then rebuilding a typical bench. |

Re: Can different seats lean much further back?
I have had a stock seat, shop4seats.com bucket seats, and now TMI seats in my truck.
The shop4seats buckets were so thick that I could not recline much at all, most of the time I was bolt upright. I sold them within 2 months of installing them as I found them very uncomfortable. There simply is not enough room in the cab to make them work. The TMI seats are great. Very comfy. I have the bench seat, it sits a tiny bit lower than stock, and relines a tiny bit more. But better support is what I like about them. If your after reclining, its not going to get much more than stock as there is only so much room in the cab to make it work. |

Unless you are a lot shorter than me (6'1"), then getting a seat that can recline means less leg room, which I can't do without. I had bench out of a 92 Silverado and the new cushion design and seat design made a huge difference in my 83.

Re: Can different seats lean much further back?
When I bought my truck about 6 years ago, it had a 88-90 bench seat. It was roomy and leaned back more than the stock bench. I put a stock bench in, that’s when I could feel the difference. But I still prefer the correct stock bench.

Re: Can different seats lean much further back?
Looks like that later model bench might be the right move. Seems like it's leaning back pretty well. Any chance of a decent center console to go with that one?

Re: Can different seats lean much further back?
That one had a fold down armrest. I suppose you could get a separate bench seat console to sit on the seat, if you really wanted one. One like this, when I swapped to the correct Benchseat.

Call it a "hunch" but it feels worse as we get older?
