Question about A/C Compressors

SInce my truck no longer has the A/C original compressor, what can i replace it with? Will a compressor from an early 80's truck work? All of the lines and crap are still in place, but the compressors wasn't reinstalled after the origninal engine was swapped.

If you have all the original stuff, including brackets, I'd consider a rebuilt original.
New receiver/dryer. New o-rings. Pull a vacuum and make sure it holds. Then recharge it.

For the most part any large car /truck compressor will work I know at least through 1975 but I think it goes higher than that.
