what is the difference ?
what is the difference in the BB motor mounts Don,t they bolt up the same. they didn,t change the style of the frame did they. the reason i ask is my 454 is a 76and i want to put it in a 72 frame. I can see the diff. in style but i must be missing something?. will the mounts from 73-up fit. please straighten me out. thank,s biglou55.

I'll take a stab for ya.
68-71 BB mounts are similar to small block mounts. Don't buy 67 BB mounts as no BB were offered in 67 . These year mounts are cheaper because they are more of them, but the mount pad (not correct term) is really expensive. No mod install. 72 mounts are a clamshell design and are 1 year only. Consequently supply/demand means you pay more for them. The mount pad is much cheaper however. No mod install, but you may have to drill an extra hole in the engine x-member. 73-up mounts are similar to 72 mounts, but are taller due to frame height difference on the 73-up years. These will require modifications to mount and/or frame to make them work. As far as I know, all styles will physically bolt onto your 76 454 block

Energy suspension makes the poly replacement pads for 68-71, and the stands are still (last time I checked) available from GM and not too expensive. Several people have had them listed on the board over the past couple of weeks. The stands in any case are relatively cheap, but the mounts themselves (5 pieces total) are expensive. The '72 mounts are the exact opposite, stands discontinued from GM expensive if you can find them but the pads are cheap. Guys, I run the cheap 68-71 big block frame stands with small block mounts. The small block mounts are like 6 bucks new. The BB frame stand has a very large hole where the bolt goes through and into the mount. I just run a harmonic balancer bolt washer on it to keep the bolt from pulling through the oversize hole.
The small block mounts bolt right to the big block engine and line up perfectly on the big block frame stand. This current truck is the second time I've done a big block this way, with never any problems. Total cost is usually somewhat less than 100 for all the parts.
