Should I buy this?
Hello, I've come across an 8' Chevy pickup box trailer for sale. It appears to be very rust free and solid. It has a wood floor that needs replaced. It also has an old topper that has a soft spot around the roof vent. The tailgate is excellent.
What should I expect to pay for it? The asking is $600 obo, I was thinking $500. Thanks Greg

Re: Should I buy this?
My opinion - "No" What are you going to do with it? It's probably worth $500 if you need it for something. If you don't need that for some particular reason, its just a pile of junk to sit in your yard and weed eat around. If you're going to use the bed or camper for something, then sure $500, go get it.

Re: Should I buy this?
My thoughts are that the value is there, no I don't need the box at this time. But I'm always looking!
I have room to keep it, and would use it as is for a while. Really have no interest in the topper. Greg

Re: Should I buy this?
I'd give 500 for it. You would be getting a bed, tailgate, and rear end. Or just use it as a trailer.

Re: Should I buy this?
If that’s a straight rust free GM tail gate it could easily be worth 2-300 on its own. If you’ve got room I don’t see how you could loose on this one.

Re: Should I buy this?
Depending on the topper soft spot you mention, the topper is worth $300-500. This style getting hard to find. If it were close and in good condition, I'd pay that for the topper because I've been looking for one. If it's got a soggy top, then maybe $150-250 for the top. Bottom line, yes, it's worth overall asking price - but if you don't have a need or desire for either, it's probably not worth the hassle of storing and reselling in hopes you'll recoup the investment.

Re: Should I buy this?
I looked into rebuilding the old camper shell on my truck, because my wife's know-nothing friends at work told her that it was possible. Using the original windows, all the original siding (assuming I could pry it off damage-free) was more expensive than just buying another shell already made, not including my time. All the paneling inside would have had to be replaced. I threw a tarp over it whenever it rained until my wife came to her senses. As far as what you would get, the bed would be worth it, as has been mentioned.

That is worth $500 or $600. Just get it, but don't get it just to put it away. Put some plywood down on the inside if the floor is too far gone, and go camping in it, and post lots of pictures for us to see. I like the Idle-Days label on it.

Re: Should I buy this?
I would pay the asking price. Then plug those trim holes and clearance lights and make a good trailer to tow behind my 67!
