Worth Saving?

This is a 1972 GMC 2500 Super Custom with a lot of great options but the cab has rust issues in the interior roof, front door jams, and the rockers. The rest looks to be very solid. Thinking it would need a donor cab. Wanted to hear your all thoughts on if the options make it worth restoring.

Most trucks you find now days are gonna have some rust or rot to them. It all depends on what they’re asking for it and if it’s worth it to you. Overall it looks like a solid truck and you’re right about the good options.

Worth saving is a question for your skill ability and available tooling. I just started poking around with body work, specifically sheet metal. It takes some training but in my mind its definitely doable.

And I would be what most call a novice.

How bad is the roof rust? Most of em need rocker and corner work so that’s really not much of a consideration.

I hear this question a lot. You know you can always just keep driving these trucks as they are. Most of the ones guys pour thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours into to make all perfect get kept in a garage and only driven on nice days. So you can arrest the rust, keep under cover, and drive in the sunshine for many more years. I see a handsome truck as it sits right now. One I'd be proud to drive... not to mention you have a great chore truck you can actually use

I would drive the wheels off that truck. It's in great shape and is complete! I'd love to have a C20 or K20 longbed that I'm not worried about having stolen or scratching and can be used to haul stuff.

Absolutely save it...I dont see how you could go wrong unless the frame is weak, stuff like that...
That's good looking....the plaid seat trim almost sounds like a Highlander...

I agree with Special K. Mine spends a lot of time in the garage, whereas it used to sit in the drive way. But there are a lot more warm sunny days here in So Cal than some other places. No more hauling though. Have to call people I used to do such favors for now!

Yep! Don't we all need at least one fine truck and another just to drive? All said and done, my interest in these trucks is as much about the feel and that view of the dash and hood ahead of me as it is looking at it sitting there. It is what it is because it is a whole lot of all three! They all feel great to drive from K/5 to C/60, C/10 Stepside to K/20 Suburban.

Spid says green plaid seat, does that mean it was a Highlander and the seats been changed?

From what I can see, it's certainly worth saving. All depends on the price.

Highlanders were Chevys, but the plaid seat was a stand alone option in GMCs. So yes, it means the seat was changed

GJB, THere's a thread here. Mamber name blazercrazy 70 is asking about a hidden hitch. He has a C20. He lowered it. Looks nice, although the front is a little lower than I would want. The lowering takes away the bulky farm truck look C-20's have, my opinion. If you are thinking about buying this pickup, I would not be scared of putting a little more $$$ into it. Of course, it depends on the purchasing price, as mentioned above...I like it!!!

Tim, The upholstery of most originally equipped cars/trucks back then, seemed to me, to be so very delicate, and did not hold up long. Having a classic pickup or car with un-original upholstery doesn't surprise me. Folks that had a little $$$ to spend would have a seat re-done, thankfully. I bought my 68 C-10 in 1980, drivers side of bench seat was wasted by then. It was a vinyl cover, which I would've thought might have held up better...

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I should have clarified I already own this truck was just trying to see if it seemed to be a project worth tackling. My mind was made up though as I picked up a suburban today that is going to require my time. I put it up on craigslist but would give a better deal to anyone on here if they are interested.
