68 ebrake pull handle on a 72 cab?

I'm reassembling a 72 cab on my 68 c10. Looks like the ebrake cable comes through the fire wall higher on the 72 cab. Will this cause problems when I try to install the 68 style ebrake pull handle?

I would cut a hole where the '68 cable should go through and put a plug in the other one. I would think it would put a little kink in the '68 cable but I have never tried it.
