Did they ever? Custom Deluxe with Bucket Seats (Z62 and A50)

The answer to the title question is likely no...But some chrome bumper trucks left the factory with tow hooks and that was (as we know) against the rules. Have you ever seen a SPID with Z62 Comfort and Appearance and A50 Bucket Seats? I haven't. I assume the reason was the seat covers themselves. Part of the Z62 package was the cloth insert seats. I guess they didn't want to make a second style of bucket seat cover...though it really didn't seem like a problem in '72. Here's a pointless thread about bucket seats and trim levels and some stuff I've noticed in the 1970 Chevrolet Movers brochure. First...here's some documentation that you absolutely could not get a V76 on a chrome bumper truck:

OK…let’s see what the archives tell us about a Z62 in 1970. Window trim bright work, cigar lighter, control knob trim, emblems, color-keyed mat, insulation, door panels and full-depth foam seat with fabric inserts…and you can’t get it when you order Bucket Seats A50. It says it twice at both RPO descriptions. These two things I say, I say, do not go together.

It seems crazy that you could get bucket seats—which automatically means carpet and console—in a base truck. But you could…here’s a ’69 SPID with just that. Base truck with A50…buckets/carpet/console and the base metal door panels. It seems to me it wouldn’t have been a big deal to put them in Z62 trucks as well…even with the regular scroll vinyl. They were clearly throwing the scroll in the base trucks.

Now check out this 1970 truck brochure (which has limited value as a historical record I know). But under the Comfort and Appearance package description…low and behold…Bucket Seats are an option. Surely a mistake, but funny. Also on this page is another anomaly that I noticed when we were trying to reproduce the gas tank carpet. This pic shows a finished edge seam at the top of the tank carpet. I have found no such example in real life. All had a rolled edge at the top. Again, just a silly observation…

I’ve got an itch to put an A50 and a Z62 on the same SPID…but I won’t if I can’t find one in real life. So if you know of such a unicorn, send me a pic…I’d appreciate it.

Re: Did they ever? Custom Deluxe with Bucket Seats (Z62 and A50)

Now let me complicate this. Probably 35 years ago there was a very low option, base, 71/72 C10 here in town that had bucket seats. I never looked at the SPID.

I have some thoughts, I am anxious to see if anybody produces a SPID.

EDIT; I just read post #3 that confirms bucket seats were available in the base trucks.

What I find interesting is that the facing page of the 70 brochure you posted shows a Z62 with "available" carpeting... Makes it sounds like carpeting was a stand alone option, which it isn't - it's associated with trim level - and Z62 supposedly gets you a color keyed rubber mat, not carpet. Hmm.

Also to your point about carpet seams - I've not seen the tunnel hump seam depicted on the below CST.

Nice points. Always wondered about the hump seam...but hadn't spent any time chasing that thread. Spent a LOT of time on the tank carpet.

EDIT: But wait...you're saying you couldn't order a truck with B30?

Ha! So much for that theory! I've never seen B30 on a SPID, but you are correct, clearly it's an option for anything below a CST.

A change occurred for the 1972 MY dropping the chrome bumper exclusion for V76 "towing devices" but specifies the hooks are only available on K10/20 models: https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf

Re: Did they ever? Custom Deluxe with Bucket Seats (Z62 and A50)

I think you are right, I have never seen a 69-70 Custom or 71-72 Custom Deluxe with the bucket seat option on the SPID. I can count four or five base model 69-70s that I have seen here on the board that have the bucket seat option. Here is a base model K1500 short fleet for sale on the craigslist thread right now ........

Seems like a silly exclusion...and it probably never happened. But a good snipe hunt is always fun.

Looks like there are more than a few base trucks with buckets...but what interests me about this truck (besides being a late '70 model year Fremont truck like mine), is that the buckets APPEAR to be two tone with the dark blue sides. Could just be a shadow of course. My expectation would be the two tone sport buckets were '69, and if any two tones made it into the 1970MY they'd be early in the model year.

its door sticker had a 5/70 build date in Andrew's linked thread.

interesting observation on the two tone of the seat. here's a peculiar 70 k20 - look closely at the driver and passenger seat backs - the dividing line between dark/light vinyl seems to occur at different locations.

Here’s the B30 Floor carpeting listed. It’s a Z62, but lists vinyl trim? Shouldn’t it say cloth trim?

What a great truck...and another example of a base truck with buckets. Here's a good thread with pics about the two tone seats. Some of them are kind of crazy...not just the sides being the contrasting color:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=688153

Edit: It just occurred to me after I posted that none of that is remotely new to you and you were just commenting on the unique variation on those seats. It's hard for me to tell based on the shadows (just like in Andrew's truck) if it's shadow or asymmetric fading of the vinyl. But also, I like the crazy two tone '69s and jump at any opportunity to post those pics.

Nice pull on the B30 SPID Joe. And it should say cloth, but you know how the SPIDs could be all over the place with descriptions.
