How to fix gap between inside door handles
What is supposed to go between the door and the handle on a metal door? I bought these spacers but they don’t seem to fit and even if they do how would I get the metal clip on the handle with the spacer blocking it?

That is the correct part, others will let you know the correct installation method.

Re: How to fix gap between inside door handles
Put the escutcheon on the shaft, put the clip on the handle. I like to put the open side of the clip toward the handle. Slide the handle over the shaft and push.
If you can find some foam washers to put behind the escutcheons, it will stop air.

Yes, that should be the correct spacer. I have never bought new ones but I think it should snap into the hole in the metal panel. As far as the clip you put it on the handle first then push the handle onto the shaft. Make sure you have the handle in the position you want it before you push it on..... LockDoc

Re: How to fix gap between inside door handles
The tool to remove that clip is available at auto parts stores. If you always turn your clips the same direction, it will save you a lot of frustration in the future.

Aah thanks guys. I didn’t think about putting it on the handle first. I’ll try that.

Re: How to fix gap between inside door handles
Just did these on my truck yesterday. Do as everyone else said and preinstall the clip when reinstalling the handle-it will snap into place. Also, the trim pieces take a good amount of pressure to "snap in"-sit inside and close the door then push them in. I couldn't get enough force on them to install them with the door open.
