As said earlier, you are likely better off this didn’t work out. If he conducts business this way, what else is going on with the truck or deal he is not talking about. On to better people and honest deals |

Re: So I bought a 68 K20 from a member here...
This is a sticky issue.
The seller really has no guarantee the deal is going to happen. Sure, "your word is your bond", but I'd hate to pass on cash when someone half the country away is mailing me a check. I get the buyer is trying to avoid bank fees but honestly they should have gotten a cashiers check drafted at their bank (about $10) and then sent it via overnight mail (about $30) then it would have been a slam dunk. You're going to spend about $1k getting it home anyways. Sucks for everyone involved. Sorry it happened but I think everyone should be "understanding" of each persons situation. |

Even if you offered your vehicle to the whole world on the world wide web? Your mentality is ok for a local sale or a swap meet. So you would use the great benefit of national exposure to reach the largest buyer pool, knowing that most could not possibly be at your door with cash within 24 hours, but if a serious buyer (such as 57Napco) had payment on it's way immediately after getting off the phone, you would sell it out from under him to the guy down the street? We are talking about a deal between members of this site. No, just because someone is a member does not constitute they run on good scruples (see above). But any member who reads thread regularly knows more about 57Napco than any other internet source for truck sales. A member would know what I know about this member. I'd bet my $500 we have witnessed him purchasing more fine vintage 4wd trucks here than any other member. He obviously is a straight shooter when it comes to making purchase transactions or we would not have been awarded so many fine classics. If he says he's buying it, he is buying it... as long as the truck was honestly represented. And I am sure he knows all the ways to assure that as much as possible (again, relies on honest seller) to make a sight unseen purchase. If this member is one of us and not just here to feed off of members, he would know these things at this point. He would know his truck was already sold when someone else necked in on his deal

Re: So I bought a 68 K20 from a member here...
I bought my '70 CST/30 Custom Camper from an older "gentleman". I saw it, took a look, and talked to the man. I agreed I would pay his asking price but asked if I could leave him a deposit and have it paid for within 30 days. First, it was the middle of the work day and second my money was into a job I would have complete within a week and back up to high on funds cycle of business. He said he would accept that deal, but also said my deposit was non-refundable after 30 days. he told me he already had one guy make a similar offer but did not pay off in time due to a sob story. Not the sellers problem, so he lost out. I made double damn sure I was back with the balance as soon as possible, not 30 days. And I got myself a fine truck from a man who is also a man of his word who says what he does and does what he says, like me. It's called integrity. This man owned the oldest garage in town and he sold old trucks out front, as well as a small equipment sales and service business. Not some chump who didn't know how to make a deal.
I have made so many deals on trucks where it was not cash in hand right then and there it's not funny... with great success. If you are desperate for cash and need your money right now, that is how the vehicle should be offered up front. Buyers understand that. There are ways to safeguard that an honest deal goes down without a hitch.

I have sold a few vehicles and when I talk to people that want to think about it or delay, I say fine but first one with cash owns it. They know where they stand, then it's up to them if they want it or risk losing it. This was not right as described!

Re: So I bought a 68 K20 from a member here...
Ok guys. I think everyone agrees this was not right and the buyer has good reason to be upset. The difference of opinion seems to be some of us say it should be posted in the member dealings area for fact checking and for the seller to have a chance to speak his side. But others want to judge without doubt this guys character to the fullest extent. I questioned someone’s comment (on this same topic) in a different thread and the posts got deleted, I think it’s time for the lectures and virtue signaling to go away here too (hint hint moderators). Not a good look.

Nobody is keeping the seller from telling his side. His silence speaks volumes. It's perfectly legitimate to talk about this. It's not virtue signaling or cancel culture. There's no lecturing going on.

Re: So I bought a 68 K20 from a member here...
I bought my 1970 SWB 4x4 from my buddy in Cali and asked if he could hold it for me. He used to call me in Florida from time to time asking me to get it shipped to FL as it was driving him crazy with people giving him offers on it. A year later I sent him the money to pay a carrier to ship it. 3 months later it finally showed up. I guess I am darn lucky to even have it as I would not even blame him for selling it and keeping my money (not much money to start with). My new motto is " Better JUMP on it if you want the deal your looking at". And I mean JUMP!

I've said this one million times, trader ratings!!!!
until some of you get onboard with the idea and convince the owners to activate that feature so we can all track the deals with other forum members, these types will continue to take advantage of you. the deals thread is useless two days after the last post, iTrader is a bug on your profile visible to everyone every time you post.. some of the ruts this forum gets stuck in are mind boggling

That sucks. Console yourself that if he's willing to do that the truck might have a ton of undisclosed issues.

Re: So I bought a 68 K20 from a member here...
I was thinking something along the lines of that the seller dodged a bullet by selling to a fella that was not on this site.Maybe it is better to get a little questioning about the selling to someone else behavior on here than to be completely picked apart for the hidden rust and and other botched areas of the vehicle which might mean that you dodged the real bullet. Of course it may be that the truck was in perfect condition and someone got a great deal. Who knows. I think we all learned something from this either way.

Re: So I bought a 68 K20 from a member here...
Simple fact, a call to the agreed buyer was in order before confirming the deal with the second buyer, not hand him back the check after the fact.
Did people miss that this buyer sent a photo of the envelope the day it was sent? Seller said "I thought it was lost or not sent so I...". BS, if he thought it was lost then the buyer needed to know. It's a simple matter of putting a stop payment on that check and sending another. But communication was necessary, not "I thought" for an excuse. For those slow to learn it's called "Sold out from under him" which is an unscrupulous move. The seller deserves for this to be talked about. Should there be no consequence for him? Would you want to try to buy a truck from him knowing how he operates? Good luck I would move this to Member Dealings if 57NAPCO had chosen to name the seller. He is moving on.

Re: So I bought a 68 K20 from a member here...
I e-mail or text tracking info when I send money via mail. Typically I'll send of cell pic of it as well. I always send it USPS Priority w/a verifiable tracking number.
This allows the receiver to see it in the system & KNOW I'm legit about sending it out. It allows me to track it on my end so I know what's up. Also, it's there within X-days or you know something is not right. While I can't speculate what the seller was doing/thinking, if one agreed to the "check is in the mail" scenario, a courtesy call to the person that sent the check should have been in order before changing direction.. It's a crappy ending for 57Napco though.

Re: So I bought a 68 K20 from a member here...
I’m not surprised, IF it’s the same person I’m thinking it is. I’ve seen some stuff on the parts board a few times over the last few years that, though it didn’t break any forum rules wasn’t exactly courteous or respectful to other members. Luckily there’s a whole lot more common decency, As witnessed in the responses in this thread, as a whole on this board than not. It’s a shame this happened. But in the end everything happens for a reason. 57napco will find a truck that’s meant to be sooner or later.

All this is a lot of lies, crying wolf and armchair quarterbacking. Here is what really happened.

Re: So I bought a 68 K20 from a member here...
Since neither one of y’all posted anything in the for sale thread on the board, and ALL of this happened via PM and text messaging it’s just a bunch of hearsay. Truck is sold, end of story, time to move on.
