I use a small really strong magnet. Even use some duct tape. Get the forward on started to hold from falling down then on of the rear ones and your good.

Re: Tips For Installing Sport Mirror Banking Plate

I used a magnet, and stood outside the vehicle, window down, and my arm reaching in to help align. It wasn't easy, but the magnet helped a lot.

Re: Tips For Installing Sport Mirror Banking Plate

What I did was put 1 screw through the door into the plate to hold it then another through the mirror into the plate loosely removed the first screw and put it back in through the mirror.

Re: Tips For Installing Sport Mirror Banking Plate

Eliminated the plate and used rivet nuts. Easier to install, helps to prevent future rust and easy to remove mirrors if needed.

Re: Tips For Installing Sport Mirror Banking Plate

I used the plate as a template, drilled 1/4" holes in the door, glued the plate with 5-minute epoxy, then screwed the mirror on. The oversized holes in the door skin eliminated having to screw through the door skin and the plates. Apparently the factory backing plates were threaded to factory machine screws whereas the aftermarket Counterparts versions use self tapping sheet metal screws. The right side mirror locates farther back toward the rear of the truck so the wing window pillar does not block the view...
