Control Arm Shaft seals....which way do they go
I am installing new shafts and new seals on my 69 c-10 and was wondering if any of you guys have done that...The seals look like they should have the larger end facing the bushing but the instructions say different...It just doesn't look right when its the other way around...please help
The instructions say to put the smaller diameter side of the seal on the shoulder...I am assuming they mean the outside of the shaft but what do I know...absolutely jack Last edited by ante_up13; 06-27-2004 at 08:29 PM. |

i dont have any pics to help on this one, but the seal slips over the shoulder of the bushing(that should be the larger ID of the seal). the other end, (ID) should fit snug on the shaft. hope that helps.....crazyL

The wider end of the seal goes against the inside of the control arm. The narrower end of the seal goes over the end of the shaft and sits snug against the shoulder on the shaft. If you think about it it makes sense, because when the bushing threads into the control arm the rear of it needs to make it inside part of that seal. It has to be this way so you can fill the pocket with grease. Otherwise how the heck would you get grease into that little space?
