early 50's Internationals
Hi Guys,
I know I am not finished the 51 Chev project that I have started, and I know this is a GM forum, but I ran across these on the weekend. Best I can determine is that they are early 50's Internationals. Not as good looking as their GM counterparts, but kinda cool looking, and I like the scarcity of these. Has anyone put this on a S10 frame? ... and how did it work out? -- I really have no interest/desire to try and update a 70 year old frame/suspension. (sorry purists) I might stop by next time I am in the neighbourhood. Thanks for any feedback

Re: early 50's Internationals
That red one reminds me of Tow Mater from "Cars" movie .
Gee if the frame rails are 34" wide you could use the aftermarket kits for suspension . But for the labor time to fab mounting brackets for a S10 chassis it might be a wash . Have fun with it and do a build thread here so others can point and snicker :-)

Re: early 50's Internationals
the red one is a ~54-56 s series, the grey one is the same vintage r series.
I see a lot of internationals on s10 frames, never done one. same concept though, mount the body, mount some pedals, mount the column, mount some power, wire and drive.

Re: early 50's Internationals
Thanks Guys,
Interesting to know that they 'fit' on an S10 chassis. They caught my eye and got me thinking....... hmmmmmmm???? Thanks for the insight.

Re: early 50's Internationals
Agree with Russ...R and S series..the S actually carried over into 57 as that was a transition yr to the A series..theres a guy on YouTube ( https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=...gLlgTAWyj5LW8w )
that builds these on Dakota chassis, much in the same way Russ does the s10 swaps.. and our own (ol rusty c10) has a L seiries hes planning a build on.. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=808066 Just be aware, there are no aftermarket parts for these...and missing parts are hard to come by..

Re: early 50's Internationals
yes, good point.
picking up steel cab corners and cowl pieces would not be possible. Just saw them and found them interesting, they would have to be very complete, if they are even for sale. Thanks

Re: early 50's Internationals
Downside to binderplanet is they are geared more towards Scouts than trucks..

Re: early 50's Internationals
Why would you screw one up by putting it on an S-10 frame. Those are probably the best riding old I beam axle trucks in existence and the frame is built like a railroad bridge strength wise.
As far s I know aftermarket support is non existent and from the time I worked at Ryder truck working on Internationals they never let the aftermarket in on a lot of common mechanical things and on some you could only buy the proper radiator hose from them. That was the square ones from the 70's but parts are still few and far between.

Re: early 50's Internationals
I saw these and thought they looked cool, that's all.
Mr48, It looks like you answered your own question. Q - Why would you screw one up by putting it on an S-10 frame A - As far s I know aftermarket support is non existent

Re: early 50's Internationals
cool bodies but no aftermarket support like you get with gm or ford trucks
i'm not a frame swap fan, mostly cuz most never get done, but have no problem updating everything mr48 is hardly a purist, but has strong opinions, for me chopping a vehicle is the worst possible thing to do to any vehicle cuz this ogre is tall i'd like to build a 30something gm truck, but don't fit in the cab

Re: early 50's Internationals
They look fairly decent...but the missing grill on the red one makes it a parts truck..from the pics, the blue one looks fairly complete...if they could be bought reasonably it would be nice to have them back in circulation...if nothing but parts donors...them being in Canada is a drawback to the lower 48...

Re: early 50's Internationals
I will have to finish my 51 Chev before I do anything else, but I just thought these were cool.
I like the body lines of the red one better, as it looks bigger, and I think the grill is there, just painted black, also looks like it has a "pusher" front bumper..... but it is good to know that they would fit on a S10 frame. (sorry mr48) not trying to cause an argument, just sharing some pics of some old trucks.

Re: early 50's Internationals
If I zoom way in on it ,I believe your correct..the grill is there.....and black..
I'm not 100% certain, but I think firewall back are almost the same, and the biggest diff between S ad R is the front clip..
