Ever see OEM moldings wrapped like this before?
Pretty well set for moldings, but my LH tailgate isn't quite what I'm looking for. Anyway these came up and I pulled the trigger. Tailgate moldings are hard to find anymore, especially nice ones. With luck patience pays off, I haven't seen them yet.
The seller is real nice and forthright, says there's not a mark. I told him I'd never seen them wrapped like that before. He says it's because they're old factory moldings built by GM, as subsequent vendors put them in paper. Interesting info. if true. I thought they were in clay, but he says it's plastic or rubber.

I'll definitely look for the date tag. The old man says he's been selling parts & trim since 1973. He says they were wrapped this way from 66-72ish.

I worked in the GM warehouse from 2972 to 1976. We never wrapped parts like that. They all had a blue and white wrapper with GM and the part number on them.

I have seen a few with the rubber coating on them like these. The plastic bag they are in isn't correct.

Re: Ever see OEM moldings wrapped like this before?
I bought a 1959 El Camino Tailgate molding that was NOS and coated in that same rubber. Talk about a hard to find piece as they're always beaten up. I never removed it from the coating but, I was always curious about it.

One shows signs of some rust on back, it's age is apparent. No tag, just a name, perhaps a dealer. Kicker is he sold me two of the same side, it's supposed to be a pair. Works out perfect, that's three matching pair It's the second time that's occurred. The first was two LH, I discovered too late the guy put a LH piece in a RH bag I've never seen these in a blue and white bag. Only clear/blue plastic or the paper/clear/glue disaster that's common. Peals off easy. Does what it's supposed to, pretty nice plan back in the day. Only similar item I've seen was a headlight bezel, though I believe that was clay.
