8 Lug Hubs to 6 Lug Hubs??

Hey all, this may be my first post, although I'm a long time lurker. Lots of good info on this site, but I'm having trouble tracking down a situation like mine.

I'm looking at doing a disc brake conversion on a 66 GMC RWD with a 3/4 ton suspension and 8 lug hubs. Can I swap the hub with a 5 or 6 lug hub? Or do i need to swap the entire axles/suspension?

Are there are 8 lug disc brake conversions? Where would i find the them along with the 3/4 ton drop spindles?

I'd prefer not to put an adapter in there and would like to just do this all with the disc brake conversion.

Project Copperhead has a 5 lug dana 60 in it done by dts
You can try contacting them to ask about converting the axle

For brakes you can contact captainfab on here he makes several brake brackets for disc conversion

Are you only doing the converting the front brakes to disc?

Here's a kit for that (available with 2.5" dropped spindles):

Great find! it looks very similar to the Western Chassis kit.

I wanted to do the rear as well.. but that's a nice kit. I'll call em and see about a 4-wheel conversion.

I know there are more rim options for the 5 lug, but i'm was thinking of going 6-lug since i've got a 3/4 suspension.. not sure if it matters. I won't be towing a camper or anything.

it looks like POL has the rear 8 lug kit also! That makes things much easier.

the answer to the first question is NO, as there are no parts available and it isn't practical to redril the hubs and drums for this.

Second queston = Yes, several outfits make caliper brackets for 8 lug floater rear axles that usually use a 4x4 front disk brake rotor and a GM caliper.

Third, that I am not sure as have never researched it.

Are you the guy on FB who was wanting to use a 3/4 ton axle for a "gasser"

Don't the front suspension assemblies out of 71-87 GM trucks swap straight up under the mid-'60s trucks? From experiences I've read about experiences with POL I'd steer clear of that outfit. Maybe people don't post good experiences, but all I've seen have not been good.

Nice to stay as OEM with parts as possible. Just keep your own build sheet. Plus it's everything you need that you know works together in one package.

I was able to pick up a 1977? C20 rolling chassis complete with a good 14 bolt and 3.73 open for $150

Looking to get a 1965-6 C20 for it.
