Some guy from overseas paying big money for these trucks.

I know a guy up the road from me who has been flipping these old trucks for years. He usually finds one sitting down and buys it for a few hundred dollars then get it running and sell it for a few hundred in profit. His brother told me a guy from Switzerland or Sweden came to his house to look at one he had for sale. The truck was probably worth around $1500 around here. The guy gave him $4000 for it no questions asked. The guy look and saw another truck not running and gave him $4000 for that one also. He then saw some pure junk parts trucks sitting out back and bought them. When it was all said and done the guy spent over $20,000 on mostly junk.
His brother wasn't sure exactly which country but the guy was shipping them overseas. Has anyone else heard of this happening?

Oh yeah there are some guy's from Australia that hit all the big swap meets and pay premium prices then ship down under.

I got a old acquaintance that I ran into about 6 months ago, and he is buying everything he can clear up to square body pickups.
He has a partner I think he said in Ohio.
He ships a truck load at a time anything from complete vehicles to parts and they sell every bit of it back east where rust is king.

This is exactly what I’m working on starting up. Square bodies are still rust free and a dime a dozen out here. There’s still a lot of 67-72’s too.

Hi everyone,
I'm in France and use to buy truck and classic vw in the US as a private party.
Not sure what this guy is doing with $1500 trucks paid $4000 but personally I always try to buy the best truck for the money considering that you have to pay shipping, custom and transport from harbor to your home, registration fee and a tune up at best.
Last year I bought a 1st Hand 1989 K1500 regular cab long bed from a dealer in WA state with 112000 miles for $5400...it costs twice the price when delivered to my house.
I can't imagine making money with beaten to death trucks.

Re: Some guy from overseas paying big money for these trucks.

Yeah, it sounds like this guy paying $4,000 for a $1,500 truck is nothing short of a fool. Why pay more than anything is worth? That's putting too much into a truck for yourself in your own town. A good buyer/seller would be trying to buy for $1,000. How can he bare the expense of traveling and not earning any income while shopping to pay 2.5x what something is worth (and in not so great condition), then the huge expenses of shipping and taxes, to end up with a $1,500 truck in Europe for $10k cost? Is he able to make profit on top of that investment? Anyone looking to buy and sell knows it's buy low/sell high if you hope to make any money at it. You offer more than a vehicle is worth when it is pristine, not for sale, and exactly what you want... or you have a rich buyer willing to pay whatever.

Re: Some guy from overseas paying big money for these trucks.

The guy selling the trucks usually puts a big price on them but he usually ends up selling for about half the asking price. He was.claiming because the truck had the original.motor (6 cylinder) it was was worth $4000. He even tried to sell it to me but he knew I wasn't going to pay that for it. I saw the truck from a few feet away and it was no way worth $4000, $1500 is the most I would have offered.

Drug cartels - looks like an easy way to launder money.

I've recently watched the show Ozark. LOL! If they want to find a way to hide money, sink it into classic cars and trucks! I know when I spend money on parts, it's gone forever! haha

Re: Some guy from overseas paying big money for these trucks.

I had my 1972 Camaro for sale on my local Craigslist a few months ago. Ended up getting contacted by a broker in Detroit that had a buyer in Finland. Though I was skeptical at first, they paid me asking price and the car is now on its way to Finland on a ship.
