Painting new dash pad - Landau black or Satin black
I am repainting a green dash pad that I bought for another truck to match my black interior. I bought both landau black and satin black sem paint. Does anybody have any experience with either of those and have a recommendation on which one would look best?

I sprayed a sample of each on an old visor that I have and I'm waiting for it to dry to see how they compare. They both look pretty flat. We'll see how they look once they dry

Well the paint is dry on the samples and I'm not sure I can tell the difference. In fact I'm not sure either one is shiny enough. Here's some pictures but I know they won't show up very well.

What other vinyl do you have in the truck? Seats or door panels. I would choose the color that matches best as it can.

I'm not trying to match the color, I'm trying to match the glossiness of the original dash pad

It's a red truck with gray seats and black metal door panels

Re: Painting new dash pad - Landau black or Satin black
I'm going to pick up a can of that this afternoon and try it tonight. I am tempted to just sell the dash pad and get a new black one...
But this way I can touch it up if it gets scratched which I couldn't as easily do with the black vinyl.

Re: Painting new dash pad - Landau black or Satin black
That's what I would do New ones aren't very expensive and even if you sold the green one at a discount so someone would jump on it (I assume it's never been installed), then you might end up at about the same net cost as buying all the SEM paint to do the color change. Or, just hang onto the green pad, you never know when you'll need it...

Re: Painting new dash pad - Landau black or Satin black
So, it is fairly shiny. I'm disappointed that there's no satin or semi-gloss finish. The other two are essentially flat. I'm going to go ahead and buy a new dash pad and sell the green one but I just thought people here might be interested in seeing the results of the comparison. Here's another couple of pictures of the landau and the satin in a little bit better light.

Re: Painting new dash pad - Landau black or Satin black
The sheen of the paint is very dependent on the surface smoothness below it. I have sprayed door panels that had different textures based on wear and what have you, it is glossy over the smooth portions and flat over the rougher portions. It doesn't fill in like paint.
I have painted smooth vinyl with the SEM semi gloss and it is glossy.

Re: Painting new dash pad - Landau black or Satin black
It will change when you use a leather conditioner. It will then put a sheen to it that you are after.
