Is this an authentic GM tow hook?
I was looking at a bare '71 or '72 frame in the junkyard today as I waited for the yard workers to remove a driveshaft I bought out of pickup truck.
The rear end was still intact and looked like an ho52. It also had factory disc brakes, 8 lug. As my eyes ran down the driver's side front frame rail I saw what I have recognized as a tow hook from the "parts for sale" section of this website. I removed it, payed for the parts and split. There seem to be part numbers on the hook, does anyone know if this is an authentic tow hook? Thanks for any help. |

Hello,
Not to sound disingenuous but what identifies the hook as authentic, do you recognize the part numbers? I cannot even read them. Thank you. |

See here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...light=Tow+hook
Also, by chance is there any evidence of white paint at all on that hook?

Re: Is this an authentic GM tow hook?
I see, very informative, thanks. To answer your question, no, I did not see any white paint on the hook. It did seem to be installed backwards, with the hook facing the radiator support but who knows what the owner was doing with the hook.
I have a '72 c10 Cheyenne which has the spare tire mounted in the bed behind the driver. I have never seen the hardware used to hold the tire in place as it was long gone when I bought the truck. Might you know what the hardware looks like? I would like to find it eventually now that I can check the tow hook off my "bucket parts list". Thanks for any help...nice rig you have. |

Re: Is this an authentic GM tow hook?
So tow hooks always came in pairs on GM trucks?

Re: Is this an authentic GM tow hook?
That's my understanding that they came in pairs.

Here is what the hardware looks like for the in bed spare tire bracket. That is not a carriage bolt it is a special bolt that has the same threads as the lug bolts. And the special lug nut has a groove in it that locks into the the spare tire lock housing. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=798318 LockDoc
