Using Two Post Lift on 1960's GMC Suburban
I'm interested in getting a two post lift to work on the underside of my 1963 GMC Suburban. I'm looking at a low ceiling unit, the Bendpak Maxjax which can be unbolted from the floor and rolled out of the way.
My question is that with the jacking points per the Driver's Manual being under the front lower control arms, and under the rear axle, how do you properly position support arms that will never span that +/- 10 foot distance? Looking on YouTube mostly I see unibody vehicles being lifted. The C channel frame is clearly not meant for lifting, as a bend in one of mine shows where someone tried. Anyone have experience with this? |

Re: Using Two Post Lift on 1960's GMC Suburban
The few times I have used a 2 post lift, the arms are positioned under the frame. That is the strongest point to lift a truck. I don't know why you would think otherwise.

I assume the manufacturer's instructions are there for a reason; the divot in the frame from a past jacking event confirms that. Perhaps 4 padded equal pressure lifting points would be just fine; I am thinking that adding reinforcement blocks inside the channel frame at the lifting points might help. |

Lifting one wheel or 2 wheels at a time while on the ground is a little different. The arms on a typical 2 post lift will not reach to those recommended lift points in the manual as you have shown.

Like cap said..lift on the frame with the weight centered at the posts...
I've lifted some mighty heavy trucks on mine..don't know what I'd do without it..
