Steering suddenly hard right - What????

My daily is a '77 Silverado.

Today, my truck is pulling hard right - so much so that I got out and checked the tire pressure expecting to have two full flats. Tires are fine. I have to steer with the wheel turned about 60° to the left just to go straight.

The truck did NOT do this last night when I parked it.

I'm thinking something is wrong in the power steering box control valve.

Any suggestions on where/how to diagnose this further?

Thanks!

Re: Steering suddenly hard right - What????

You may have a brake hose that is collapsing on the drivers side and keeping pressure on the disc. I had one do that about 5 years ago. Drive it then carefully put your hand close to the wheel. If it's hotter than the rest then the brake is dragging.

Could also be a caliper seizing up. I had to replace my original ones on my ‘85 a couple years ago when it started pulling hard to the drivers side.

That is about the last thing I would have expected, but, yeap, that'll do it! Glad you found that!

Dang, that Pontiac Firefly is crazy cool.

Merry Christmas!

Looks like an alignment problem

Re: Steering suddenly hard right - What????

Snapped flush with the thick round flat washer. Not sure what caused it.

I assembled this front end six years ago and haven't touched it since. Clearly I screwed up somehow?
