'67 trim on a '70?
Has anybody but the earlier lower trim, the one that goes around the wheel openings, I think it's '67-68, maybe earlier too, on a '70? I know the mount holes won't line up (checked the measurements in the assembly manual) but maybe could be done with some 3M tape? The bodylines are all the same, aren't they? The '70 molding holes *should* be covered up.... Anyone do it? I hate my '70 trim....

I've seen it but can't find the link. Looks good just very obvious to those that know these trucks. If you like it, go for it!

It goes and 3m tape is the easiest was to go. I have a 72 and plan on doing the same thing.

Sure you can do it if you dig it.
But.. You are bound to get a lot of strange looks and questions at shows or on the interwebs.

Re: '67 trim on a '70?
You'd have to (unless you wanted to fill in the original trim mount holes drill a second set of holes). Based on what I saw in the assembly manual, comparing the hole locations between the two different set-ups, the earlier trim holes are drilled higher than the 69-70 years.
I'll just need to get my painter to run the lower white up sharper and tighter on the body - it's pretty loosey-goosey under the '70 trim and I think the earlier stuff is noticeable thinner so offers less hiding. I better make sure the older trim is big enough to even cover and hide my original holes.....

Bah- I'm not going to just hang around the truck if I take it somewhere so let them scratch their heads.... I can't stand the double trim (upper and lower on the custom '69-70. It's just too much.

That looks great. Much cleaner and gives it the appearance of a nicer body line. Makes me want to ditch the white rockers (mine is white/blue/white) and go all blue down below too. I like the white hat on the cab (on mine) though....

Re: '67 trim on a '70?
I've been thinking about doing the same on my 72 after it's painted. I'm with you. I can't stand the double trim and my truck will be so far from stock that it'll be just one more thing the purest's will complain about.
Here's a couple pictures of later trucks with the early trim that I've saved. The first one is Low Buck. Link to Low Buck's build thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...223158&page=36

Definitely looks good on all the years. I'd use it for sure.

Re: '67 trim on a '70?
Didn't think it would look any different on the newer models, but it does look a little strange and not in a bad way, just didn't expect to have that much of an affect on the look.

Re: '67 trim on a '70?
Bringing this back to the top. The only 2 threads I found where this was discussed are this one and this other one.
Does anybody have any more pictures of 67-68 molding on 69-70 trucks? What are some tailgate trim options that would go well with it? Are there any issues with the fit of the molding on the front fenders, since the fenders are different in 69-72? |

Re: '67 trim on a '70?
At that level the fenders are the same, so no issues. On the rear, you could go eitrher way with trim, 67/68 or 69-72. The only difference is in the light light trim. 67/68 trim goes at the top from the tailgate down the outer edge and stops. The 69-72 surround the whole tail light, and between tail and b/u lights

Re: '67 trim on a '70?
I am a bit of a trim lover and don't mind the purists scratching their heads or giving funny looks. MIne is a 72 model with lower older style trim, later uppers, large tailgate lettered band with both the upper and lower narrow band along with the upper tailgate edge protector. The only thing I might have done different is swap out the tailgate handle for a chrome one. Here's some pics of what I did...

Re: '67 trim on a '70?
Well done, Sick!!!
My thinking goes the other way, have a ways to go to having trim on my 67 or 68, though... I'd like to see just the lower, later trim on a 67 or 68... |
