Relocated battery wiring question
Ok, I got my battery box relocated to under the bed just behind the cab on the passenger side. My question is how did you run your wiring to the starter and how did you run your ground? Pics if possible.
Thanks, I was thinking of running the wires on top of the frame rail but don't know if I have the clearance for it. As for the ground I was thinking of grounding to the frame near the battery box. Then I would ground from the frame to the engine block. I have my fuel, fuel return and brake lines running along the passenger side frame side rail.

So on my 68 I ran the positive over the top of the frame rail and then down and inside the frame rail. Then up to the starter solenoid. I use 00 welding cable from NAPA for both negative and positive.
The negative cable I run up to the top of the frame rail just a short ways from the battery. Then grind a spot on the frame to make sure it's clean, then drill a hole a for a bolt. Attach the negative cable to the bolt and then run the engine grounds from the same bolt to the engine and transmission. If you are running an LS you can't have enough good grounds. |

My battery is in the original location, but I ran the negative cable to one of the starter mounting bolts.

Well it sounds like I'm on the right track with running the wiring on top of the frame rail. But I will need to revise my plan a bit and run the grounding wire to the engine with a leg attaching to the frame. As stated I will need to grind some paint to make sure I have a good ground.
I will need to revise my wire retainer die for the larger wire. But that should not be to hard. It worked great for my guel lines.

I wonder why there's a need to relocate the battery. Long runs of huge cables isn't going to help, but I suppose it isn't a big deal. I'd put the battery on the starter side and not plan to drive it in crappy weather if the battery is exposed. I'd also probably redo the feed to the low current side with a +1 size cable.

Thanks for the link, IronAngel. It looks like I am on the right track with grounding to the frame with a short wire and then to the engine block. I do like the idea of having the starter hot lead only live during engine start up.

Well I finished wiring the battery to starter. I decided to put a remote positive battery terminal to act as a power block and for jump starts. Now onto the bed.
