Help me find seals
Anyone know where I can find the seals for my eaton rear end? Ho52. Luckily the bearings and gears look great because they are spendy. I am looking for someone that might know what these 2 seals are called and where to get them. I have a small leak and I think its coming from one of these. My pumpkin looks good and tight
Also. It looks pretty strait forward, drop the drive lines and undo both areas that have bolts, is anyone familiar with this job? I love my eaton and although I will replace it one day it will only be when I have to lol. Thank you |

The wheel seals that seal on the outer surface of the axle housing tube have a fairly large inside diameter because the tube has to be large enough to allow for the axle shaft to pass through it.

Re: Help me find seals
Are you asking about the pinion seal or the gaskets?

Re: Help me find seals
Sorry guys I didnt clarify, I have never taken this apart so looking at it I assumed there are gaskets around the bolts that are after the yoke and also the big bolts around that. I just thought that there were always gaskets after bolts on the rear end. Does that make sense, sorry if I'm not describing it well. Thank you for any help.

Re: Help me find seals
Am I able to take the yoke out and then take off those other covers? I cant find anything in both my manuals that have the disassembly procedure for this axle.

Re: Help me find seals
Once you get it apart, you'll replace the pinion seal while you're in there, right? I've never had mine apart so I'm not much help, sorry.
I popped in here mainly to mention gasket sealers. For the two gaskets, whether you find new ones or make your own, don't use a silicone type sealer. Permatex #81182 is made specifically for use with gear oils and it works great. You can use it without a gasket, but I like to apply a thin film of it on both sides of a gasket.

Re: Help me find seals
Unless it is really leaking bad, I would leave it be, Unless you know how to set the pinion bearing preload .
But if that isn't an issue. 1) the seal behind the yoke is the pinion seal. 2) the gasket at the 5 bolts is the pinion support housing gasket. If the yoke sealing surface is grooved you might be sleeving it, or replacing. |

Re: Help me find seals
I’ve heard the narrative that the HO52 is dead since I joined as a member. These tales appear exaggerated still. Apparently NAPA has drums in stock for 71-72 yet.
