Anyone know what this steering wheel part is for?

I was not on my game and neglected to take pictures when I disassembled this steering wheel 6 years ago. I have a few and some online from Lugnutz' blog that has been super helpful. But I am stumped so far on a part that I bagged with the steering wheel parts and cleaned up and painted. If anyone can tell me where it belongs, and if I even need it really since the standard steering wheel I had removed isn't the one I will be using. I plan to use a deluxe wheel and I have noticed that the drill hole pattern is a bit different between to the two. Ill post pics and see if anyone can help sort this out.

Here is the part Im unsure about

Here is the side by side comparison on the backside of the center of each steering wheel, the deluxe that I plan to use and the older standard that was removed.

Another sorta kinda mystery part. When I did the teardown I didnt take too many pics but this one does show the white plastic ring that sits on top of the shift collar tension ring..or at least it did when I took things apart. Here is that pic showing the white plastic ring.

Re: Anyone know what this steering wheel part is for?

I tried cleaning it off and it looks like there is some kind of gasket/layer or black that looks to be part of it. Is this one in good enough shape to reuse or does it need to be replaced?

This is the order in which it goes together into the tube.

Val, does the white disc that sits on top that I have look right? I may be looking at the pics wrong but it looks like a 2nd black ring is on your white disc. Mine has remnants of something like a black disc.

Re: Anyone know what this steering wheel part is for?

Mine doesn't have another ring it is oil and dirt build up. It is exactly the same as yours. It goes in this order onto the column. Metal black ring with bolt hole inward, then white bushing ring, then shifter housing. I've only seen this bushing in automatic trans steering columns.

Re: Anyone know what this steering wheel part is for?

I was in the same situation when I put mine back together after five or six years or more so I went on the Internet and looked at as many articles I could find and none of them show that white plastic ring nor did I have that part in my original 65 column

So your is an automatic and you dont have that white ring?

I figured out the mystery part, I had not taken enough photos of the teradown but I did find a pic I took of the deluxe/custom steering wheel when I first bought it in 2017. That part was on the back of it. I found out from the seller that the steering was from a 59-60 Bel Air. So I will have that part ready for a Bel Air if I ever get one.

Re: Anyone know what this steering wheel part is for?

The shifter housing bell, where the shift lever goes into, is different for automatics as well. You can still use that Deluxe steering wheel. There are two different variants that came out on some 64-66 C10 trucks. Can't see the front of yours but the Deluxe C10 steering wheel was also used in cars.

Re: Anyone know what this steering wheel part is for?

Looks like I am missing a part, the "thrust washer"? Is this a difficult to find part locally or is it an online order you think? Here is Lugnutz pic from his 63 assembly pics. I would think its still needed for a 66 with an automatic.

I don't see it listed as a part to purchase on lmc
