Adapted late model tailgate support cables rather than the stock metal ones. The cables and bolts in the tailgate fit a 1994 Ford Ranger.

Does the steel sleeve touch the edge of the gate ? I like the looks of that set up better then stock. Did you have to grind off the original piviot point ? How does it attach to the gate.

Cut off the original mounting point on the tailgate down to the end of the larger diameter round stud (this leaves about 3/4" sticking out from the end of the tailgate). Drill and tap a 8mm X 1.25 hole through the center of the round stud. The Ford bolt then fits that hole. It needed a washer between the round stud and the cable end so it would clear without rubbing.

Very nice mod. I just sent this info to a buddy with a 65 who was trying to figure out how to get rid of that truck's tailgate setup.

i will have to find the parts at the yard the next time i am junkin', looks better that original since i use mine to haul, thanks.
