Re: Settle an argument for me guys

no 400 small block in a 1972 c-10.there were 2 - 6 cylinders,250 and 292.a 307 and a 350 v-8 small blocks and a 400 (402) v-8 big block.that is it as far as i remembered and looked up to be sure in my 72 chevy truck sales brochure.there were 400 small blocks from 1970 til 1980.lots in old impala wagons and monte carlo's,then a million little class "C" motorhomes with 400 small blocks but i don't remember seeing a 400 small block in a truck til 75 or 76 when they seemed to be very plentiful around here in 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks but no 400 small blocks in a 72.

Re: Settle an argument for me guys

no on the 400 sbc, it was offered only in passenger cars until somewhere around 76-77

engine option literature I believe will support that - Keith, little help here please?

Re: Settle an argument for me guys

No, 400 SBC was not available for '72 C-10's. The 402 BBC was marketed as a 400.
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf

The 400 small block showed up in trucks in '76 but not in 2wd trucks, only 4wd's. Then in 1980 it was dropped from the 1/2tons and offered on K20/K30's with GVW greater than 8500 lbs. 1980 was also the last year of the 400 in trucks.

Re: Settle an argument for me guys

Some very good info in this thread. I owned a 1970 shorty with the stock 402 BB, never heard of a 400 SB for those early years. As a matter of fact, I believe the floor "hump" was raised to accommodate the larger block and Turbo 400.

My 2 cents...
