change 6-bolt to 5-bolt
Have a 70 C10 with 6-bolt rear axles. Is it possible to install 71 to 72, 5-bolt axle shafts into my housing.

How hard is it to do. Also, is there a website that has some info on how to do it? I would like to see what's involved before I try it. Thanks

I have a 70 fleetside and I used axels from a 77. Very easy to do. Pull wheels and break drums, remove rear axel cover, remove pin holding spider gears, push in axels, remove "C" clips (a magnet might be helpful) and pull axels. To install reverse. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I had heard I couldn't put these 5-bolt axles in my housing, or is it just '70 that you can and not '67-'69? I'm also putting spindles for '71 on my '70 and heard I needed to change my outer tie-rod ends. Does anyone know if I will need to change my manual, drum brake, master cylinder, to a bigger diameter piston master cylinder because of the calipers?

You are right on the 5 lug axle shafts...only on a '70 can you pull the flim flam, 69 and older you'd need custom spacers or custom shafts.
