Valve cover help

Does the passenger side valve cover just have one hole for the hose that goes to the carburetor air cleaner spacer? This is on a 72 k10 with A/C, PS,PB. And also ,how is the driver side oil fill tube bolted down. Just a single bolt that bolts the intake down or does that bolt have double threads which are smaller at the top with a nut to hold down the oil fill tube? When I tore my motor down in the middle of the intake it had one of those double threaded bolts with nothing on it.Hope this makes sense. Thanks

I looked at mine. It is a c10 w/350 engine. It is original & has never had any work on the engine. The pass. side valve cover has the hose going to the air cleaner & also has a rubber plug type oil cap on the forward section. The oil fill tube on the drivers side is held down with a nut on a piggyback bolt.

I just removed the oil fill tube on my 71 C 20. Original engine, no piggy back bolt on mine ? Almost certain it was never tampered with. 52K.

In the assembly prosses the intake is bolted on way before the valve covers. After the engine is painted all of the dress parts are installed. I.E. Fan, Carb, Alt. and brackets, Power steering pump and brackets and oil fill tube. So there would need to be a stud end bolt for the oil fill tube.

The valve covers are identical, with a large hole for the oil fillers and a smaller hole for the vent tubes and the drivers side having two tabs tacked on the carburetor side for the green temperature sender wire.

The oil filler tube should be attached with a stud bolt similar to this.

Di you know if the oil fill tube rubber cap is the same cap as the passenger side valve cover block off oil fill cap? Still cleaning the passenger side cover and the cap is hard as a rock,but sure looks the same.

I took the day off today and have been playing around /cleaning my passenger valve cover. The oil fill/block off cap was hard as a rock,but would still spin freely so I knew I needed to seal it . Only real way to seal it up was to try and get it out so I used a heat gun to try and make the rubber soft again which worked but then with very little pressure on it the plug craked. I have a new plug for the oil fill tube and a old used one that's still on the tube and looking and measuring the valve cover plug vs the oil fill tube they are pretty much identical, but the valve cover plug is alot lower profile .140 in . Not sure if it was manufacturing screw up or it needed to be that much lower so the A/C compressor would clear it. Now I need to find out how much room is under the compressor to make sure I'll have room. Probably overthinking it,but I'd rather know now then later.

I removed the oil fill tube on my 71 C/20 while installing a HEI. Don’t plan on reinstalling it. Can you still get the original style rubber cap for the valve cover instead of using the oil fill cap ?

I've been looking like crazy and haven't found one yet. The newer passenger side valve covers have that hole gone with a raised area where it used to be, but also have wiring brackets spot welded on which are not supposed to be on there for our trucks. I'm going to use one and cut the wiring brackets off. As far as the area for the oil fill cap on my truck you won't see it because of the A/C compressor and it's probably one less area for it to leak oil ect.

I thought that the temp sensor wire clips where on all 71/72’s ?

Just on the drivers side as far as I know. And the only wire on that side was for the idle up solenoid mounted on the carburetor. The temp sensor was in the head and the wire for that was ran underneath or on the side of the wheel well. Maybe someone with a factory truck will chime in.

The green Temperature wire on trucks runs along the carburetor side of the drivers side valve cover and drops over the front of the head.
