54 COE mirror for dash

Have a friend fixing up a cool 1954 Chevy Cab over. She thinks the mirror for it mounts on the dash but it is missing. Anyone know if that is true or would a cab mount mirror from that era work also?

Re: 54 COE mirror for dash

I looked thru the coe section in the assembly manual...it only shows a mirror on the drivers side..no rearview and no pass side
Upper cab should be same as truck so I would think a center mount above windshield would work

Re: 54 COE mirror for dash

I dont have any idea, so dont take my advice as saying there ISNT one.

but logically a mirror on the dash for a truck that sits 20+ inches higher than a 1/2 ton doesnt make a lot of sense for seeing whats behind you, which is typically a box or a big grain bed on a coe anyway. a dash mirror would be a stretch on even a 1/2 ton.

Re: 54 COE mirror for dash

My 53 COE is very original and has no interior mirror or place for one.

Re: 54 COE mirror for dash

I don't know about NC but this state requires 2 mirrors on a vehicle. either one in and one on the drivers outside or two outside. My daughter got stopped in her Mercury Monarch a few years ago because she didn't have an inside mirror but she pointed out to the officer that the law requires two mirrors and she indeed had two mirrors in good working condition. I honestly think it was a wakeup call for that young officer. We did put her inside mirror back on though.

I'd have to walk out and look but am not sure that the one and a half ton I have in the yard has an inside mirror.
It doesn't have one and looks like it never did.
