1983 Stepside
I was called by a gentleman who owns a Stepside I went to look at a couple weeks ago. He offered such a deal I could not say no even though it does need a bit of work. So I closed the deal, and I will get it Monday afternoon.
It's one big issue I have little idea of, and have never tried to fix this. The bed wood is gone, and I need something temporarily. Bed wood kits appear to be out of the budget right now. As I am on a tight budget right now because this wasn't a planned idea. Is there any cheap options like plywood that work for a few years? Or what about appeton wood? |

Re: 1983 Stepside
I’d go with 3/4 inch marine grade plywood, probably 150 bucks for a sheet.

Re: 1983 Stepside
gonna take more than 1 sheet of ply to cover the floor..
but with just deck boards you wont have the grooves for the bed strips unless you add them ive seen treated 5/4 deck boards used, as well as the waaaay more expensive trex.. i put a oak floor in my neighbors truck several yrs back..it was a kit and no telling what it cost for materials with the crazy high prices, the thought of buying any wood makes me cringe

My friend buys it all the time so I could get it from him from his overages. This project fell into my lap, and I could not say no. Lumber prices are scary high, and I am trying to explore some options and maybe someone had a idea I have not come up with. I even found PT 1x6 and I could do that cheap enough. Or even just regular pine boards if 5x10 is to much for now now |

Re: 1983 Stepside
I used a drive thru sign from Kentucky Fried Chicken when I first had my truck in the 90's it worked for years and made good conversation. Just an option

Re: 1983 Stepside
I just spent the last few minutes looking for pictures, no luck. On my stepper I used 3/4" cabinet grade plywood cut into 12" wide boards, 3 stainless strips, wood coated with weather proof stuff, can't remember the name. The bed looked really nice.
Of course plywood or any wood is stupid expensive currently. I used fence boards for the bed of my Model A pickup, cheap.
