1969-C20 rear drum wheel studs

Looking for a little help... I have recently upgraded the front drums to disc brakes on my 1969 C20 using the POL disc conversion kit. The disc conversion kit has 9/16-18 wheel studs. Now I have 9/16 wheel studs on the front and 1/2 wheel studs on the rear drums. I am in the middle of going through the rear differential (Eaton HO52) and drum brakes and need to replace the drum brakes. So, I want to change the 1/2 wheel studs to 9/16 wheel studs so I have the same lugs nuts on the front and back. I have found the correct rear drums (will drill out the hubs) to accept the 9/16 wheel studs, but I am struggling to find the actual 9/16 wheel studs. I have searched here and on google and everything says to use the Dorman 610-190. Only problem is, I cannot seem to find them online anywhere. I have checked RockAuto for other 9/16 wheel studs but nothing matches up to the 1/2 wheel stud dimensions I have removed already.

Any ideas?

Certainly seems like the 610-190 is unavailable pretty much everywhere online. You might have more luck checking some not very busy parts stores, they might have an old dusty box of them on the shelf.

I am not an expert, but perhaps someone can chime in, is there any reason why the 610-188 or 610-278 wouldn't work?

Alternatively you could switch to metric so you can run modern hub covers, lots of people do that.

Thanks for the reply. Will look into those as well. Unfortunately, drums I ordered were cancelled due to no stock. Probably will stick with original drums and live with the mismatch at this point.

When I did my swap, I also swapped over the rear end from a 71 C20. I'm sure this isn't in your plans, but it was great for me because I got your issue resolved. If you had a donor frame like I did, I'd say that's your best option. I also rebuilt all the front/rear suspension parts at the same time. I know you went the POL route, so it's a little different. Keep your eye out for an HO52 from a 71/72 and you can swap it over later.

Are you kidding me, another issue with the upgrade. Mine is sitting on the floor right now to be installed next week. Didn't realize the studs would be different. One more thing to look into. Starting to think I should have just stayed with drums up front. Also did the brake lines/hoses work out for you with them coming out at the rear of the a-arm instead of the front as in 71-72 trucks.

No issues that I have noticed with the brake lines. Will keep an eye on them for a little bit to make sure.

Rear studs seam to be unobtainable at this moment i did look i was going to replace my rear studs in my 72c20

Decided to live with current drums and just do the shoes and pads at the moment
Late 70 up h052 diffs are a bit wider to and if you have a 14 bolt backing plate will accept 13 inch brakes with no drilling or spacers

Leaf or coil?

Could always upgrade to a 14 bolt
2 ways to do it for a coil truck widen the truck arms to accept a bigger axle u bolt or notch the axle tube to accept 3 inch axle ubolt

So your saying that 71+ with disc/drum setup used 9/16 wheel studs front and rear for c20? Wonder why that all got changed?

what about changing the front studs to 1/2" instead of the rear to 9/16"?? I just verified on my 70 I'm going to run into the same thine. 9/16" front and 1/2" rear and I have the HD leaf spring suspension in the rear with a full floating D60.

Both c10 c20 changed stud size with disc brakes


All off the shelf front rotors that are direct fit will have the 9/16 studs

Smaller stud will not work holding itself in the larger hole and welding them in place stand a high chance to get the wheel off center from the hub center
