Pretty good haul this weekend!
Three new Squarebodies and it’s only Friday? Not a bad deal in my book!
First one is a 1980 K20. Supposedly has an SBC 400, has a TH400 and NP205. Runs good, needs a few small things. Brand new front clip sheet metal. Some light rust, but pretty good shape overall. Has the stock 16.5” wheels and hubcaps with worn out off-road tires. I lucked out, as the wheels I pulled off my ‘86 K20 project had the same stock wheels, but in 16”! These will go right on and let me keep the stock caps. I’ll probably clean this one up and use it to replace my 2012 as a daily driver. Pics when I pick it up this weekend! $1700 Second one is a 1983 K5 Blazer. No title, but not a big deal. Decent body overall, except for the rear tailgate is damaged from someone pushing it around the yard. Interior is a little worn, but has the buckets and console intact! Some rust on the drivers floor/rocker but good otherwise. Supposedly runs, but has an issue with the transfer case? I’m going to get the title for this first before I mess around with it too much. Picked it up for $350 Third one is a 1982 GMC K10 shortbed. Recon title from side swipe damage unfortunately. Supposedly upgraded from a 305 to a 350. Front driveshaft pulled because the guy thinks the t-case may be stuck in gear. Reverse is either weak or might just be hard to find since the linkage is so loose. Runs pretty well, and would be a fun driver once cleaned up. Plenty of rust and body damage to work through! Got this one for $1000. |

Re: Pretty good haul this weekend!
Does a reconditioned title really hurt these trucks at all? They're 40 years old. Most of the typical ways of determining a vehicle's condition don't apply anymore. Mileage, originality, and title problems are all less important than a physical inspection of the truck's condition.
If I were buying a truck, I wouldn't care at all what the mileage was. I'd be more concerned about poking and prodding into potential rust spots, checking suspension bushings, and looking for oil leaks. The same applies for crash damage. If it looks and drives good, it is good.

Re: Pretty good haul this weekend!
Yes and no. Personally, I don’t mind them as long as I know the damage was repaired correctly, or the damage is plainly visible to inspect. I tend to steer away from them if I intend to resell, simply because it opens the door to a million questions, only to be insultingly low balled. It will always lower the value some, just how much is up to the market and quality of the repair (or build, if restored). Like you said, by this point, the vast majority of these trucks need large amounts of refurbishing anyway, regardless of title status.
As far as the mileage, I don’t think mileage is really as big of a deal as it used to be. 200-300k miles is the norm. Just about every vehicle I’ve bought in the last few years is listed as Exempt or Unknown, which really just means either the odometer has rolled over, or one of the previous owners didn’t list the current mileage on a title transfer. I’ve never heard a single person make any comments about the mileage. Most people realize these are 30-48 year old vehicles. |

Dude! I tend to find some pretty good deals but that haul borders on the ridiculous. Lots of potential there.

Some good flippers there or parts rigs. Can never have enough squares.

Re: Pretty good haul this weekend!
That one's a beauty, and quite a steal at $1700! Lose the running boards, and it will look better immediately.

Re: Pretty good haul this weekend!
I’m tempted to, as this rocks the grandpa truck look 100%, but they’re actually pretty useful for me as I’m 6’4”.
