agree . The 93 shaft has a rag joint still on it and it doesn't have any plastic pins. It is designed from the factory to slide in and out with no damage being done. Between the rag joint and free movement I think I will be OK.

supposedly the 02 vans have a ujoint shaft that fits right in. haven't looked yet to confirm it though.

update> purchased a used 93 suburban steering shaft. The length is prefect. With the sliding rod it bolts right up. Of course this isn't the end of the story. Hooked it all up and the rag joint is junk. went to local parts houses they look at me like I am nuts asking for a rag joint. Oreilles says don't have it auto zioe sells me a Dorman that would work but by the time I buy the extra grade 8 bolts I think I am better off going on ebay and buying a new coupler complete. So that's my plan. I will update when I get it .

26 spline i am pretty sure.

all back together and driven/ here is a recap.

Redhead box is quit a difference in feel from my local rebuilt box. It has more resistance and I like that . Would recommend a redhead over a local rebuild if you need a box.

The 93 suburban two piece shaft fits perfectly. With the approx. 3 inch slide in of my steering column inward towards the dash.

Installed new rag joint/coupler and it is tight. Great improvement.

Now for the test drive. Compared to before there is an improvement (still has slop)and with the higher resistance on the new box the movement is a lot safer to adjust to going down the road. BUT the slop is less but still there, It is NOT coming from the box or rag joint for sure, It is coming from the connection between the two slip shafts on the suburban Shaft I bought . Not sure I can ever get this play out unless I find a NOS shaft, This almost looks like 30 year normal ware. Now if I assume that play is normal then it is in the column. Does anyone know if there is a way play can be found in a 93 suburban tilt column by something being worn out

Last update I hope. Just installed a brand new NOS steering shaft from a vendor that bought out these from GM Part #26033101. WOW what a difference. NO MORE SLOP??
There is something I learned that I would like to pass on. If you take one of these sliders apart the ones that are not plastic inserted make sure you put all the parts back in it. The used one I bought on ebay was missing a very important leaf spring looking tensioner that wedges between 2 indentions that then slides together in one piece. I think is why the slop was there.
