Kick panel speaker pod differences
Hi everyone.
I am in the process of getting some sound in my '67 c10 (Kenwood head unit, kicker 8" hideaway powered sub, 400w amp for 2x 3.5" speakers for the center dash and 6.5" in kick panels so ordered panels and infinity speakers from Classic Auto Sound https://www.classiccarstereos.com/in...html?rrec=true. They came in really quickly so no complaints there. I was bummed to see there was no angle to the pod though. Basically it looks like the LH speaker would shoot straight at the RH speaker. Are there any issues with this? I am not an audio expert, but assumed you'd want it shooting towards your chest/head area for mids. I have the RetroSound KP-C59-6772, and they do have an angle to them. They are not a point up to your head angle like those old school q-form pods, but it's not flat like the ones you have.

Being the audiophile I am , It's hard to improve on the sound from the stock AM radio using the single dash speaker .

I have the kick panel speakers in my 68 C10. My only issue was the high/low head light switch. I moved it over towards the right one bolt hole. I only used one bolt. The hole in the carpet with the plastic switch ring keeps it from moving,

The directionality of speakers is highly dependent on the speaker but generally it is not that big of a deal to be off axis. If you modeled the difference in surface area you would "see" from your left ear with 25* of angle, I would wager it woulc be almost nothing
I'd be more worried that those two 3.5" speakers would not be a benefit in the overall system. I'd put that money into the 6" speakers. |

Sorry, that was confusing. I meant to say that I wouldn't have dash speakers at all, and I would maximize the quality of the 6.5" component speakers. So just two kick panel speakers and the subwoofer. A side benefit is that you get extra space under the dash.
The theory is that there is very little that the 3.5" speaker can do (in terms of frequency response and sound pressure) that the 6.5" speaker can't do better. At higher volumes, the smaller speaker will likely start to clip/break up before the larger speaker. If you want to raise the front sound stage, you could use some tweeters mounted at dash or a pillar level- but these old trucks make a lot of noise and I can't say if you would see a benefit in actual use. |

Yeah , I'm adding in my Craig 8 track to get all the acoustics I can out of the same cubic feet of space in my cab as a double door refrigerator .

Thanks for the responses everyone. SkidmoreGarage, that's what I was after on if the angle pops were needed or if the straight ones would be fine.

So how are you stashing that - I assume under the seat (bench)? I'd like to add some bass to mine.

When I was at the Maggie Valley show two weeks ago, I noticed a few trucks with the Kick panel Speakers in them.
I asked the owners if I could look inside. I noticed that the Drivers side was in such a position that it completely blocks the Parking Brake pedal, and seriously impedes access to the Dimmer switch. Now I like a good stereo system, but those two accessories are kinda important in a truck, IMHO. My current setup is two 4inch speakers in the stock location , two 6 inch speaker up under the bottom edge of the dash, and two 6x9 four ways up under the seats. In the near future, I’m adding a 8 in Subwoofer, and a 400 watt amp, to get a little more clear Sound while cruising down the road. |
