9ft stepside "step" measurement

Ok so got another question for you all, I'm looking for info on the 9ft stepside bed steps. How long are they compared to the 8ft? I currently have a 8ft stepside and my new frame has a longer than stock WB so I was thinking of using steps from a 9ft bed to push the fenders back a bit or maybe even use a full 9 ft bed.

The odd part for me is in pics of 8ft stepsides(including mine) it looks like the rear wheels are sitting a bit further forward in the wheel wells than they do in a 6.5ft or 9ft, is this just an illusion from pics or do the wheels not line up the same from 6.5ft-8ft-9ft?

Well, lets try this... truck wheelbases: short bed 115, long bed 127, c30 9ft 133.

So if 127- 115 is 12, then between the back of the cab and the rear wheels the long bed step should be 12 inches longer than a short bed step?

So, 133-127 is 6, then between the back of the cab and the rear wheels the 9ft bed step should be 6 inches longer than a long bed step?

Better check my math... FWIW

100% correct in line of thought. In a perfect world the wheelbase is 6" longer so the step should be same and then 6" longer bed behind fender to make the 1ft extra for the 9ft vs 8ft bed, but again unless its just odd angle pictures it almost looks like part of that extra 6" of wheelbase is just pushing the wheels further back in fender openings. Like if I put a zero rate block in my truck and push rear axle back 1" its not going to make my step any longer, it would just give me a longer wheelbase.

Bump from the dead. I haven't ran across a 9ft stepside yet and unfortunately life has kept this project on hold so no closer to an answer than back in 2018.

Hopefully Rollthedice will chime in. I didn't think to take a measurement of the step from the bed I found for him, but if he still has it, hopefully he can get a measurement for ya

Thanks for bringing your C 30 back in the limelight 60-66! Would love to see any updates on it. Your C 30 stepside is a one off, one of a kind, never find another one like it again with its rare options, the original purchase price in '64 is equivalent of the purchase price of two base model C 10's.

I got a strange step bed on a 59 government fleet truck that has the rear wheels tucked forward in the fender quite noticeably. I originally thought it was a 9ft bed due to the huge side step and space behind the fender to the gate. I measured the bedside and got 8"7' and only 3 stake pockets. I was told it was a bed from a 60-66 LWB truck so guessing 127. The stock 123 in wb is making the tuck even worse

Thanks FS , no updates sadly . Its put away and not on the list yet. Still trying to round up the steps for the truck . Hopefully soon

Here you go. I took some pictures of both the 9 foot bed steps and the 8 foot for comparison...I measured both in the same places. The line closest to the truck bed...and the line to the top of the bolt that goes through the step. You can see it is quite the difference. I would say right at an 8" difference. Hope that helps.
