tire sizes and 1 piece driveshaft???

The truck was originaly a 292 inline six with a ch465 4 spd manual tranny. The rear axle is a 3.73 6 bolt unit. Most of these trucks that were 2wd either had 3.73's or 3.07's. almost all of them used the corporate 12 bolt. Any 12 bolt truck carrier will fit in them. if you switch between 3.73's and 3.07's you have to change the carrier too. they also used that same 12 bolt axle until the mid 80's, 85 or 86 I think. they are all the same. there are some differences in the housing. the 70 and up housing is longer from wheel to wheel by about 1.5 inches that means that the axles are also longer by about 3/4 in. Therefore you have to use long axles in a long housing. You can put long axles in a short housing but you have to make a spacer for the break backing plate.
