Upgrading Slider Window - Keep SS Trim or not?

overall, it sounds like a p/o went crazy with a restore. its possible for an option or two to slip thru the cracks and come on a truck from the factory without being on the option sticker, but I doubt GM would miss a lot of stuff like that. good luck with your resto!

I found this posting from 2004 and this fellow says if the latch has "Prestige" - then it is a OEM Factory Slider... So I guess I scored a OEM Slider?

OEM sliders have screws affixing the top hoop to the bottom bar at the corners. If the pieces are welded together at the corners it’s aftermarket. The date code on the glass may also give a clue.

Hope it does turn out to be a factory slider. That'd be cool whatever way you go...

Boo, not Factory.

Glass date code is 1984 and there are little brackets that I assume are welded in place.

The gasket will easily fold open and release the trim whether its been cut or not. The leg of the trim is "L" shaped and fits in an "L" shaped groove in the gasket. In fact, you may want to tape the trim to the gasket in several places prior to removal to keep it from just falling out. Not likely, but it could happen...it's not hard to get it out of the gasket. Don't remove the joint covers until that joint is out of the gasket or until the all trim pieces have been taken out of the gasket...once again some tape across the covers will help hold it all together especially if your working by yourself.

The SS Trim came out perfectly and easily, as you reported. I didn't want to polish the outside because then I'd need to do that to the windshield too - HA! I did clean the grim from the inside of the trim, wasn't bad.

Still haven't gotten in my rear slider window installed, my neighbor hasn't been able to help. On the upside Summit magically delivered my SS Trim gasket today - they swore on the phone last week it wouldn't ship any earlier than Jan 31th to *their* warehouse from the vendor.

I tell you what, that was really a lot of fun installing the SS Trim onto the gasket, NOT! It took me over 2 hours to get on, that thing is a PITA. I watched two different YouTube, over and over, not that it helped me get it done any faster.

Finally installed with SS Trim - had to punt to an installer as seems everyone I tried is all tied up for a few more days and I just didn't want to be without my truck anymore Ha!
