grendel, I am all wrong about the coil spring rears because I recall someone mentioning the trailing arms for the 3/4 tons have an extra plate welded to them for reinforcement. The leafs were probably an option on the 3/4. Longhorn Man, on this site, is the real expert.

CS-CE21034 Models (133-inch WB) 8.5-ft beds, i.e., Longhorns, were not available with Leaf Springs, per the Truck Data Book that dealers used. They had 2000-lb rate rear coils. There were also the 500-lb cap'y auxillary springs that could be ordered.
My SWB Fleetside was ordered new with the 2000-lb cap'y rear coils. I can testify that it rode like a rock, when the bed was empty. But, it was ordered to tow a trailer, which it did, and does, very well....but with "normal" cap'y springs now.

No Longhorns ever had coils, no 133 inch wheel base truck (in 67 - 72) ever had coils either.
Check out my site in my signiture for Chevy Longhorn and GMC Custom Camper info. |

My Longhorn has leafs, and the rear shocks have additional springs around the outer perimeter of the shock...
