K10 Blazer?
A recent thread got me thinking about this. Utah registers my truck as a K10 Blazer. Anyone else have something like that?

Re: K10 Blazer?
Doesn't matter.
In Michigan it would be a "truck wagon". The 5/10/15/20 series designations are all marketing magic anyway. K

Re: K10 Blazer?
Probably not important but may be a little interesting. As a teen, I owned a 1963 Scout. When I went to renew the license one year they charged me for truck plates. Always short of money, I complained it was not a truck but it was a "station wagon". They asked me if it had a rear seat and I honestly told them it did. They changed the classification from truck to car. Probably saved me two or three dollars. But gas was 34 cents a gallon.

And I'm not worried about the title, just curious if other states title them the same way.

Re: K10 Blazer?
FWIW; Here in Ontario Canada it's a bit different. All pickup trucks are registered as a commercial vehicle and get black plates. The price of these plates depends on the GVWR of the vehicle.
Blazers on the other hand are registered as an MPV (multi purpose vehicle) because they have a back seat. These vehicles get blue plates the same as regular cars. |

In the past, especially on an older vehicle you could just claim you paid $100.00 and there was just a small amount charged. They finally realized they were losing lots of revenue so they started getting a bit more concerned with it. You can still "fudge" somewhat by declaring a reasonable purchase amount. The state of Tennessee also allows a tax free transfer to family members....That's why we all have SO many cousins.... For later models they go by the blue book

It's similar here, except older vehicles need an appraisal so that receipts can't be made out for a lower amount. Unfortunately, our sales tax here is 13% on everything so that adds a lot to the price of a vehicle. They do allow transfer of ownership tax free too, but only to direct family members, not cousins or uncles. Anything and everything costs more in Canada. I should have left this place when I was in my 20's. |

On my project trucks, I have shown them pictures of it all apart and declare that's how I bought it.... The clerks office employs all women (not to be sexist) so they really don't know the value of a 50 year old truck. Our tags are $29.00/year, no wheel tax or other associated taxes.
