Position of Center Console?

In regards to the lining up of the Center Console, with the seats.
Bear with me here.
Should the front of the Console be lined up with the front of the seat bottoms?
I’m about to put in new Carpet and have decided to go with the Carpet covering for the Gas Tank.
I was going to fabricate a cover with Fiberglass Resin and fabric stretched over a frame, but after diving into the planning and mock-up, I just don’t have the time, or patience.
The reason I ask asked the Line Up question is, I want to fill in the useless space between the Console and Tank, and moving it forward a little would give space for the small Amplifier that I’m installing.
I know I can mount it inside the Console but I’m just kicking ideas around.

I know it won’t be factory, but I just want to make it look cleaner look than having th gap between the seats.

Re: Position of Center Console?

I'm not completely sure what your current setup is, but if your truck has sliding seats, my first thought would be to see where the forwardmost seat position is, then rearward, mark them both at the front and split the difference for the front of the console. That gives the most chance at the console being in a decent spot for every seat position as opposed to being great for one spot and too far back for the others or vice versa. Just my 2 Cents. If that makes sense.

Re: Position of Center Console?

Thanks to all. I think I have it figured out now.
My console is from a 74 Blazer and so the back edge angle is different.
This is what causes the gap. The thick jute padding (Aftermarket) may have something to do with it too.
Once I get my new carpeting in I’ll see what I can do with it.
