Disc/Disc Proportioning Valve Help?
Hey Guys im running a disc/disc setup in my 1969 C10. Front Ends From a 87 GM Vehicles. Rear Ends From a Early 90’s Truck..
Do I run any sort of proportioning valve with a disc/disc setup? The front brake lines are tee’d together and one 1/4 line from the rear. Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Disc/Disc Proportioning Valve Help?
The short answer is yes.
A panic stop would be dangerous without one. They sell them for disc-disc set ups. Or Drum-discs, different part numbers. Last edited by Accelo; 05-17-2022 at 12:48 AM. |

Re: Disc/Disc Proportioning Valve Help?
I run maximum ine pressure to the fronts (T'd no prop valve) and a single adjustable for the rear line. Dial the rear back until they do not lock up first. This is a common way to do it.

Re: Disc/Disc Proportioning Valve Help?
It's not clear to me if the disc/disc valves do any proportioning. I'm guessing not, but it probably gives you the safety valve and warning light switch. I may be way off, but I've never seen any specs on what kind of bias they use. I guess I haven't seen that for a disc/drum valve either though. You would think that requirement would vary a lot based on front to rear caliper piston size, weight dist, etc. I was going to plumb mine without any kind of valve but now I've about talked myself into the adjustable setup.

Re: Disc/Disc Proportioning Valve Help?
The front gets a lot of extra weight thrown on it during braking, while the rear end gets lighter during braking Given the same hydraulic brake pressure the rear will lock up first since there is the least weight on it. The proportioning valve lets you add some internal resistance in the rear brake line so the rear will lock up around the same time as the front.
An adjustable proportioning valve lets you dial it in with different loads.
