Re: Flame arrestor at passenger side valve cover
I have one with just the straight through fitting on it. No screen. It may be from a 1969 but I am not sure. Still has the tower clamp on it so I am fairly certain it's OEM. When did GM use the flame arrester and when was a plain nipple used?

Re: Flame arrestor at passenger side valve cover
I have seen pictures of the plain nipple with hose attached, then inline flame arrestor, then more hose, then the air cleaner or spacer. And I believe some of the flame arrestors were like this and in the air cleaner at the place where the hose attaches.
For our year model trucks and 8-cylinder engine the common setup I've seen in forum pictures is like the one at the beginning of this thread. |

Re: Flame arrestor at passenger side valve cover
If yours looks exactly as pictured in this thread except it has nothing in it, then it is possible it got clogged and a previous owner removed the guts from it instead of cleaning it.

Re: Flame arrestor at passenger side valve cover
They appear on eBay now and then, that is where I got mine. The listing was pointed out to me by a member here. And they appear in the parts section of this forum now and then.
If you upgrade to the premium membership and support the forum, you can post want-to-buy ads. That is how I get the hard to find stuff in the easiest way possible. No guarantees but something to try. I believe there are tons of these laying around in people's garages because the stock air cleaner, spacer, hose and flame arrester is one of the first things people rip off their new truck and replace with a chrome open air cleaner with chrome breather on the valve cover, baby chrome does get you home after all and the engine gets an extra 100 HP just for doing that! Not really, just kidding. But it does look so cool. |
