Factory Wheels
Hello,
I recently purchased a 1978 GMC C15. Pretty original basic truck. Could these be original wheels to the truck? |

Re: Factory Wheels
Yep.
Those are the optional aluminum wheels. Do you have the SPID label for the truck? PH7 = forged N90 = cast K

Re: Factory Wheels
I do have the SPID:
That's part of why I was wondering. Doesn't seem to be any wheel options. |

Re: Factory Wheels
Yeah - somebody stuck those on there.
Would have had the base steel wheels, on (as you say) a pretty base truck. K

Re: Factory Wheels
Optional wheels don't seem to fit the SPID theme of basic truck.
Pure speculation: Dealer add after purchase. Swap from another truck where that customer didn't want the aluminum wheels. Could be a buyer wanted a well optioned truck already on the lot except for the factory installed optional wheels. A PO added wheels well after purchase date. |

Re: Factory Wheels
Sort of what I thought too. The paint is the same. The SPID says solid color, but it has two tone white. I think it was dealer added the paint. Could also be previous owner.

Re: Factory Wheels
Hard to tell from the angle but those look like the narrower version from the GM vans with the optional wheels. If I remember right they were like a 6 or 6.5" wheel where the pickups were 15x7's

Re: Factory Wheels
You could be right. They look a little narrow. Is the width stamped on the back? I would like to score a set of steelies with GMC hubcaps. Although that may be awhile. I got to get this thing running first.
