What is the correct way for the gas pedal to be connected to the rod??? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My pedal fell of on my 72 K10 a while back and all that was holding it on was a little bolt that wasn't long enough to get enough threads on the nut. Is this what they used from the factory?

if i remember correctly, a pin with a cotter pin is what is holding mine. i put the cheyenne trim on my pedals a few years ago, and this is what i remember being there. a bolt and nut would work if it is not so tight as to limit the movement of the pedal. and dont forget the spring, or you'll have hanging pedal syndrome, and no one wants that!

Cotter pin makes more sense. Where is this spring you speak of? I didn't see any in that area. I actually think I need to have the pedal off the floor more as I don't think I'm getting WOT when its down all the way. You can lift the pedal off the floor about another inch. I think its needs to be lifted, the the end of the throttle cable moved more forward to keep the pedal that way.

there is a spring that the pin holds on and creates tension to keep the pedal from drooping straight up and down. it is a pretty light spring. you might check under the seat or floormats for it. a buddy of mine had the same problem you are talking about, not full throttle. he bent the steel rod up so it was more of an L shape. it worked for him, but check it out first. i think he had a He11 of a time bending the rod. i guess it is pretty hard.

The pin is made for a snug fit in the pedal and the spring is need to keep pedal off the floor and in correct position. Both the pin and spring need to be put in place at the same time. This can be a little tricky.
