4.3 rebuilt engine for 2000 S/10
Advice please!
My disabled friend down in Colorado has a nice 2000 S/10 that the V-6 engine apparently has a bad crankshaft(?) that is making it impossible to keep in time and he said it was "rattling" when he got it to the shop. The shop is quoting $3800 for an engine and $1200 for labor. I'm seeing a GM remanufactured engine from jegs for just under $2700 https://www.jegs.com/p/Chevrolet-Per...08163/10002/-1 #12491867 He is in Pueblo.

I'm going to call the shop myself in the morning!
It sounds to me more like a bad timing chain and sprockets, unless that has done more serious damage inside the engine.

I don't see how that would be possible. The engine would have already self destructed if the crank moved far enough to lose signal.

I don't know what to do? He is 750 miles away and besides $500 gas round trip I got hurt about a month ago and there is no way I can sit and drive that far right now. Not that I could even actually fix it, but maybe I could find another shop and help him tow it.
