rack and pinion steering

Has anyone had a successful Flaming River rack and pinion kit installation? Had a kit along with Flaming River column installed, on my 71 by a professional shop and when went to pick it up was not drivable on street. Had 4 hard spots when turning from lock to lock. Upon further inspection could see evidence one U-joint hitting on itself, angle was to great. Shop says can't correct do to headers. I have since made major changes double D rod lengths and redid the center rod supports. Is considerably better, but not what I would consider to be acceptable for a rack and pinion steering.

The pictures should further explain my situation. The u- joint @ end of column is at 16.5 degrees and center u-joint is right at 35 degrees, the bottom u-joint is at 32 degrees. I am thinking the middle u-joint is my problem.

Re: rack and pinion steering

Was the steering joint binding? If so they need to start over and adjust the angles or add another joint to make it work properly.
