Shapele wood is a hardwood that has similar characteristics as American an African mahogany.

Grows in Africa, and other places.

Nice! Does your carpenter buddy have a line on sapele for something less than an arm and part of one leg? Last time I bought a plank it was on sale at something like $8 a board foot. With that nice a bed, it's only going to haul A$$, like my brother's '62 Chevy. No way was scrapy cargo going in that bed!

I assume you mean South America neither Mahogany or Sapele is American grown , These Hardwoods woods in higher grades are most used in Guitar building , being not a very hard harwood I do not know how well it will hold up as a bed , it will dent and chip , but being it has a very nice grain structure makes it is a very stable wood that will not twist or bow. Nice looking bed .

American mahogany Native to southern Florida……..

Didn’t say Sapele is grown in American…….

It’s not that it’s a higher grade the logging for mahogany has been outlawed so a suitable product (Sapele) as stated is a very similar look and is readily available, some trees grow to 180’ tall thats a lot of board feet of lumber in one tree.

Don’t think he will be hauling bolder’s in the bed of that truck Sapele is a very durable hard wood and again looks amazing in the bed of this truck.

I like color contrast of the body color in relation to the wood very nice.

Re: Redid my C10 truck bed

Thats one of the best looking beds I've ever seen. The wood color and the stainless hardware just work perfect together.

Great choice of wood. Looks great! I've done a few floors for myself and others. I'll be making a floor up for my '67 project. I'm waiting till I decide how rustic or refined to finish it out

Re: Redid my C10 truck bed

Freaking gorgeous.
Never heard of sapele before so I did a little googling & reading ( not research, I'm not a scientist).
Besides the stunning appearance it seems to have characteristics that make it a good choice for your bed.
