Interested in a trade...

Toyota FJ40 needed

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I posted this on the wanted section of this board but this one seems to be more active.

I am looking for a Toyota FJ 40 in the east texas, west louisiana or Arkansas area. I will consider other locals if you have what I want.

Any year FJ40 is fine. It needs to be mostly original and must have stock powertrain. It does not have to be running, but it should be able to be towed by my TACOMA, so it would need inflated tires.

What I want to trade:
I have a 1971 Chevy C/10, 97 K original miles. 95% original truck throughout. Original paint, engine, trans, am radio, spare tire, etc. This truck looks good and runs great. It is 2wd.

Post here if interested or e-mail me at z_ballardjp@hotmail.com

It is an older Land Cruiser that looks something like an older International Scout or a F@$D Bronco.

Found on on ebay

I honestly don't know why anyone would want to trade anything for a rice burner, but here is one on ebay.

I have had a few FJ40's and a FJ60. The FJ40 looks like a CJ Jeep series but a little bigger. They are overbuilt, and the six cylinder engines are a direct copy of the old Chevy 235, the parts interchange with each other, lol. They are great off road vehicles and will take a lot of abuse. They will take more than the full size Chevies will, honestly. They are made to be used in Africa and Australia in the worst conditions and are routinely overloaded and not maintained very well. They arent very fast, about as fast as the older Chevy trucks with a 235 engine, they are heavy. I'd love to have another one someday. They have a comparable trans to a SM420, a gear driven transfer case, basically 9" Ford axles in front and back, and are just as easy to work on as any US truck. The only weak spot is the front Birfeild joints, something like a CV joint in the front axles that can break when under full throttle at full turn.

The 1975 up FJ40 are the best, especially the 76 and 77, the first years with disc brakes and the better four speed trans. The newer they are the more emissions crap you have to remove.

There is one of those in my parking garage at work. I never knew what it was. I will see if I can find it and get a price on the thing. Might be worth buying to get to swap for your truck.

I bought my C/10 truck from the 2nd owner 6 years ago. It was my only vehicle in college. I wanted to keep it and restore it, but I already have another truck.

We had a blue 1978 Toyota FJ40 when I was a small kid, about 5 to 6 years old. We would go way off in the woods of East Texas in that thing and go camping and fishing in "unknown" creeks. I honestly believe that truck was the toughest truck we ever had. We would go through flooded areas and through shallow parts of the river in the summer--yes, the RIVER. And I am not talking about a rocky bottom rivier like those in the north, our rivers down here are all silt and mud.

I have thought hard about this, and my truck would be a real easy restoration for me, but I think that I would like to have an FJ40 like I did when I was a kid so that someday my kid could have as much fun.

If you all find any leads, please let me know. These FJ40's are more rare than our trucks, thus they are harder to find and more expensive. I would value my truck around $2500 here and probably $3500 in the North.

You wont find a FJ40 in good shape less tha 5 or 6 K. They gor for over 15K in rustfree shape. My dad sold his last year(1980 FJ40) for 15K but could have gotten more. They had a big problem with rust, even the southern ones rusted out a lot. They are very easy to swap a Chevy into also, its a common swap.

Putter, find out the price of the one you found, se if its even for sale.

Yea, they rust out big time. Worse than the rocker panels and cab corners on our trucks. You keep them clean though and they will be OK. I plan to keep mine in 2 places--in the garage and in the woods!

I had a 76 fj40. Thing would walk up a brick wall. Hate to admit it, but if I was going to get another, and had to sell my truck to get it the truck would be history. These trucks are all over the place, and I could always find another one.

Mine was a 76 FJ40 also, first year of disc brakes. Got it for $1,500, rebuilt the engine , added some performance mods, repainted it with gloss black Krylon(which turned out pretty dang good), added tube bumpers, new grey cloth top, and a bunch of other stuff. Wish I never sold it.

Mine was bone stock, with 33 BFG All Terrains. I got it for $2000. My first attempt at body work, then took it to someone to fix.
Painted it the stock blue color. Man that thing was a blast to ride around in with the top off.

Thanks, Now I gotta get me one.
