door hinge pins/bushings
I have been calling local dealers & checking on line but can not find gm door hinge pins for my 1968 c10.
Any ideas on where I can find door hinges/bushing. Thanks Don |

has the pins and bushings to do ONE door so you would need to order two for the truck

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
I tried the pins on my 70 but still had a movement that I did not like. New hinges are the best way to go' At least for me it was.

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
Go to the parts store and look on their HELP boards. Make sure to get the bronze bushing instead of the plastic[yes they make plastic door hinge bushing]

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
I've used a few of these sets with bronze bushings , The price is great and they fit perfect ,The pin is a little longer but you can easily trim it once you have them installed

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
Even the bronze bushings have some slop unfortunately.

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
I make my own bushings out of oil-lite bronze and press them into place, so it has a tight fit, even use a GM door hinge pin as well.

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
if you tried the bronze bushings and you still have hinge movement it's time for a new set .

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
I agree if you get the right[ correct] bushings, the hinge should be as tight as new or better. I still can't get over the General using plastic there and the most amazing thing, that they lasted. I have rebuilt a set on Wiggy's truck[ current customer frame off] and they are tight as can be.

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
As mentioned, these are in the (Dorman) help section of any parts store. I seem to recall that the pin diameter is .25" and the kit comes w/ a bunch of bushings of various ODs.

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
The hinge pin /bushings I bought from Manes I used a 2 lb brass hammer to install the bronze bushings into the hinges using my large anvil vise and then using the same hammer drove the pins in ,There tight so I will be buying a few more sets from them because they worked for me .I'm sure there are many different size bushings being sold ,I buy a lot of parts from Manes because they don't just sell parts for these trucks they use them also .

I rebuild hood and door hinges for a living, and have been mentioned in a few post on this forum. I doubt the moderators would want me to give pricing on here, or post my website, and rightfully so. Some others have posted it, and you could search for threads there, and then contact me. Willie |

Re: door hinge pins/bushings
"Yes they make plastic door hinge bushing" as they were installed in all the hinges, from the factory.
I have rebuilt my share of hinges. None were loose after rebuilding unless the hole for the bushing was worn oblong. I drill a small divot on the top of each hinge before taking them apart. That way I install the pins correctly, from the top. Easy to mess up how they go together, if not marked. The most difficult part, of rebuilding, is getting the old pin out. Even with a press you can bend the hinges ears if not careful. Lots of heat, will typically get out even the most stubborn hinge pin. Don't forget to replace the hinge stop nylon. Classicparts is the only vendor I know of for this part. https://www.classicparts.com/1967-72...UaAgh0EALw_wcB Last edited by Accelo; 12-20-2022 at 08:46 PM. |
