Need recommendations for front speaker upgrade
What have you guys used to upgrade the front door speaker on an 2004?
Would like to have the 6.5 style with the factory clip in bracket. Stock radio.

Re: Need recommendations for front speaker upgrade
I don't remember the brand but I bought my speakers from Crutchfield.com
They were a mid grade price and major up grade from stock. Crutchfield sends everything needed to install whichever brand you buy. Great people to deal with.

Re: Need recommendations for front speaker upgrade
If you have 20 year old lower trim speakers you could look into the stock UQ7 Bose speakers.
I used a hybrid of the UQ7 & UQ3 speakers in the front and UQ7 speakers in the rear doors. The UQ7 Bose speaker system has tweeters in the A pillars and I didn't feel like wiring them and installing the UQ7 A pillars so I bought new UQ3 tweeters that fit above the 6" woofers in the front doors to replace the fried originals. They actually sound pretty good. Go to post #50 for the front door speakers and post #59 for the extended cab rear door speakers in my build thread. I posted the GM part numbers. You'll need to do some research for the Bose UQ7 rear speaker part numbers if you have a crew or single cab. https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=774925

Re: Need recommendations for front speaker upgrade
This is misleading because adding just Bose speakers will not provide the same sound quality as the NBS trucks that actually came equipped with the Bose system. As a matter of fact, the Bose speakers were designed to work with the Bose system as a whole, meaning the amp and special factory radio. There is a huge difference in sound clarity with the factory Bose system vs the non-Bose system.
If the OP is focused and concerned with having the factory wiring speaker clip, then I would say get Bose for that and not necessarily for better sound quality that may not be noticeable. If the speaker wiring clip is something that would be nice to have but having better sound clarity is more important, then go aftermarket speakers.

Re: Need recommendations for front speaker upgrade
I have an inexpensive Kenwood head unit not the factory Delco.
It all depends on your expectations. The speakers I installed sound decent enough for my pickup truck. Do they sound as good as the factory BOSE setups? Probably not, but I'm not looking for high end audio from my pickup truck. These speakers do sound much better than aftermarket in the same price range and much better than the UQ3 speakers did even when they were working properly. An added bonus is I didn't have to drill holes in my doors and chop up the factory wiring.

Quote:
speakers were failing so replaced with slight upgrade compatible with stock power output.. no frills but sound decent and nothing attractive for petty thieves.. Crutchfield fitment guides for just about everything and they include factory harness adapters where necessary.. their customer service is excellent and they're pleasant and extremely knowledgeable.. I'm a home audio snob but don't bother with anything much over stock in a truck/car.. if I was though, I'd call Crutchfield for a matched system, they pretty much only carry quality.. good luck!
