rear drums and shoes on a 69
I changed out the shoes and drums on the back of our 69 CST10 today, I havent worked with drum brakes since High school (40) years ago. I seem to remember my dad telling me to have a place to put the truck in reverse and stab the brakes and do it till they are adjusted, I seem to remember doing that and it worked. The drums do not have any hole for the adjusting tool, nor do the backing plates. is the process I described above correct or is there another way to adjust the new shoes to the drums?
Thank you, RonWT |

Sounds right if the self-adjusting hardware is there.
Adjust the clearance until the brakes just drag a bit them back off a hair. There could be a knockout in the drum or backing plate to allow for manual adjustment. |

Thank you for your reply, like I said, it's been 40 years. I am sure all the hardware was the re. I think it's good to go now, until I can get a disk conversion.

The rear drums on my truck didn't have the adjustment slots, so I added the slots with a drill and a file.
